Compared to having headlight lenses commercially repaired for approximately $75-$150 or replaced for up to $1,500, the 3M Lens Renewal Kit with Protectant costs a fraction of that price, and the entire process takes under an hour, depending on the extent of the damage.

How Does it work?
The steps for using the 3M Lens Renewal Kit with Protectant as easy. First, mask the area around the headlamps. Second, sand the hazed surface in a two-stage wet sanding process with the enclosed sanding pads until the surface is smooth and the dulled layer is removed. Then polish with the 3M Rubbing Compound, and buff with the buffing pad to the level of clarity desired in the plastic. Finally, add the 3M Performance Finish for an added layer of protection to help keep your lenses clearer, longer.  In addition to a standard household drill mentioned (1200-1600 rpm) used in the buffing process, you will also need a spray bottle and water used in the wet sanding process. Otherwise, everything that you need is included in the kit.

PRODUCT DESCRIPTION:
The 3M™ Lens Renewal Kit with Protectant is designed to restore clarity to headlight lenses that have become yellowed, cloudy, or hazed over time. By restoring clarity to the lens you improve the performance of the headlight and enhance the appearance of the vehicle. Headlamps have either a hard surface layer or a UV resistant coating on the outer surface of the lens.

Once a lens has been degraded by sun or UV light and becomes yellowed or cloudy, it is necessary to remove that yellowed layer in order to restore clarity to the lens. The effort required to refurbish headlamp will vary greatly by vehicle manufacturer, year, make, model, and headlight design. Large or extremely hazed lenses may require more than one kit.
